Jaguar Land Rover has issued one of its largest recalls in recent years, impacting roughly 170,000 vehicles in the U.S. The recall stems from a faulty converter used in certain JLR mild-hybrid models that could cause a complete loss of drive power and exterior lighting, increasing crash risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Affected Vehicles
- Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery models from model years 2019–2024.
- Jaguar F-Pace (2021–2024) and E-Pace (2021–2022).
Jaguar Land Rover is working on a fix and will begin notifying customers by mail starting June 12, with follow-up notices once a repair is available.
Why It Matters
A recall of this scale adds pressure on service operations while renewing scrutiny around quality for two brands already battling perception challenges. Execution at the dealership level is especially important for maintaining customer trust.
Between the Lines
The recall comes as JLR continues to navigate longstanding quality concerns. In the 2026 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, Land Rover edged out Volkswagen and Volvo for the third-lowest ranking, with 274 problems per 100 vehicles. On the other hand, the 2026 Jaguar I-Pace holds a score of 81 out of 100 on J.D. Power’s consumer rating, including an 83 for quality and reliability, qualifying it as “Great.”
Bottom Line
The recall adds another challenge as JLR works to rebuild momentum, but it also reinforces how important the service lane is in shaping ownership confidence. For dealers, effective recall execution could be as important as showroom performance in maintaining customer loyalty.
