How Michigan Chefs are Changing Lives: Fundraising for Rising Stars Academy's Empowering Programs
Michigan Chefs Unite for a Cause
(CBS DETROIT) - On Thursday, Michigan chefs came together to raise funds for Rising Stars Academy, a program dedicated to creating job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The academy is expanding its Home Hub and Gather & Grounds initiatives.
Home Hub Program
The Home Hub program provides vocational training in areas such as culinary arts, retail operations, and customer service. By partnering with local businesses, the academy offers participants real-life job experiences, enhancing their employability.
Gather & Grounds Program
The Gather & Grounds program will function as a coffee shop and social hub, focusing on barista and customer service training. It aims to make adults with disabilities feel comfortable, welcome, and integrated into their communities.
Night Under the Stars Fundraiser
To support these initiatives, the Rising Stars Academy hosted the Night Under the Stars fundraiser dinner, aiming to raise funds for building renovations, equipment, and vehicle purchases. As of Friday, they had already raised over $42,000, nearing their $50,000 goal.
Chef Participation
Mark Prentiss, co-founder of the academy, noted that 13 chefs from Metro Detroit participated, presenting signature dishes with assistance from some academy students. He expressed pride in the students' dedication, stating, "The energy was off the charts. Most of them could be in professional services."
This collaboration not only highlights the talents of the chefs but also fosters a supportive community for individuals with disabilities, encouraging them to gain valuable work experience.
