AT&T's Proactive Winter Storm Response
AT&T has been working all week to prepare for a widespread winter storm affecting areas from Texas to Virginia, implementing measures to help customers maintain service during challenging weather conditions.
Hundreds of Generators Deployed
According to Incident Commander Ken Smith, AT&T has brought in hundreds of generators to the Dallas area alone as part of their proactive preparation strategy. These generators are strategically positioned to support cell towers in case of power outages.
Addressing the Main Concern: Ice on Power Lines
Smith identified ice on power lines as the primary threat to network stability during winter storms. "If you get that ice on the power lines and trees that bring that power down, that's going to impact our network," Smith explained to NBC 5.
Rapid Response Capabilities
The company has personnel and assets spread out across the affected regions to ensure fast response times when issues arise. "We have personnel and assets spread out so that we can respond fast," Smith emphasized.
Customer Care and Public Safety Focus
Smith expressed emotional investment in their work, stating, "We do care about our customers… when we roll into an area, whether it's a winter storm, or like in Kerrville, as an example, supporting our public safety, that's an important aspect of what we do. Public safety is a critical role."
How Customers Can Help
AT&T is asking customers to report outages as soon as they occur and in a timely fashion so crews can be dispatched quickly to affected areas.
