How It Works

Providing customer service in French Sign Language (LSF) enables deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to interact with Amazon's support in their primary language. In France, around 200,000 people rely on LSF as their first language, with written French often being secondary.

This new service is accessible via computer, smartphone, or tablet with a camera, requiring no additional software. Customers can engage in video calls with professional LSF interpreters who facilitate real-time communication with Amazon Customer Service agents.

Commitment to Inclusion

"This initiative reflects our commitment to creating inclusive experiences for all our customers," says Samira Bejnouni Terlier, Head of Customer Experience in France. "We want everyone to benefit from the same level of support, regardless of how they communicate."

Future Plans

Amazon aims to extend this service to cover all customer service hours in France (from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week) and integrate French Cued Speech (LPC) by October 2025.
