Account Manager — Institutional Risk Consultancy (US/UK Clients)

The role

SherpaFundsTech works with institutional Portfolio Managers (long-only and hedge funds) to help them understand, articulate, and improve portfolio risk, leading to better returns, better control over risks and better process.

We’re hiring an Account Manager to be the day-to-day owner of a set of sophisticated clients—not “sales-first,” not entry-level—someone who can sit confidently across the table from seasoned PMs and risk-takers and add real value.

This is primarily account management and client service. Growth happens organically: when clients are genuinely supported, they introduce us internally and externally. Your job is to make clients so well-served that when they expand their coverage, they bring us along.

(And yes—your predecessor was so good that our biggest client hired him into a major corporate role. You’ll be stepping into an environment where excellence is noticed.)

What you’ll do

Own relationships with institutional equity PMs

  • Be the trusted point of contact for long-only and hedge fund PMs and their teams
  • Run regular risk check-ins, updates, and “what changed?” conversations
  • Build credibility through consistency, judgment, and clear thinking and communication

Deliver risk consultancy that clients actually use

  • Gather the right inputs from clients (position/risk data, objectives and constraints and business context) and translate them into meaningful analysis with the help of the Sherpa product tream and Sherpa's proprietary technology
  • Use SherpaFundsTech’s visualisation methods to explain the numbers and sell the result to the client
  • Manage the workflow to ensure continual client success
  • Turn complex risk outputs into PM-relevant narratives and actions

Retain and expand accounts (organically)

  • Keep existing clients delighted: responsiveness, accuracy, discretion, and relevance
  • Identify natural expansion opportunities (more teams, more strategies, deeper workflows)
  • Leverage warm intros from happy clients

Be the voice of the client internally

  • Spot patterns in client needs and feed them into product/process improvements
  • Help sharpen how we communicate risk so it lands with decision-makers

Who you are

This role needs someone who can hold their own with senior professionals. You might come from risk, analytics, prime/coverage, institutional equity sales-support, portfolio analytics, or a specialist data/consultancy environment.

You’ll likely have:

  • Experience working directly with institutional equity investors (PMs/analysts/risk teams)
  • Strong understanding of equity portfolio risk (factors, exposures, crowding, liquidity concepts, concentration, scenario thinking, drawdowns)
  • Confidence communicating technical topics without jargon, and the judgment to know what matters to a PM
  • A service mindset: proactive, organized, calm under pressure, and obsessed with client experience
  • High integrity and discretion—clients share sensitive information and expect professionalism

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with risk models, factor frameworks, or portfolio analytics platforms
  • Experience across both US and UK institutional markets
  • Ability to write concise client notes that are genuinely useful

What success looks like (first 6–12 months)

  • Clients view you as a trusted extension of their process
  • Retention is strong; response times are fast; meetings are useful, not time-fillers
  • You uncover and execute expansion opportunities through credibility and trust
  • You improve how we package, explain, and deliver our risk consultancy
