Major Changes Ahead: TxDOT Plans Transition of TxTag Services to Harris County Toll Road Authority

Overview
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to transfer the management of TxTag's toll-transaction processing and customer account services to the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) by the end of the year.
Important Customer Actions
TxDOT recommends that TxTag customers update their address, vehicle information, and credit card details to prevent any issues during the transition. Additionally, customers should pay off any overdue bills as soon as possible to ensure a smooth process.
Current Contracts and Future Operations
Currently, TxDOT has a $185 million contract with TTEC Government Solutions for customer service, which is set to expire on November 14. After the transition, existing TxTag customers can continue using their toll stickers without needing to switch to an EZ TAG from HCTRA.
Tolling Transponders and Account Management
Drivers will have the flexibility to use tolling transponders from various regions, including North Texas, Kansas, and Florida. Following the transition, customers will manage their accounts via the HCTRA website and can still access in-person services at any TxTag locations in the Austin area.
Maintenance Responsibilities
While HCTRA will handle toll collections, TxDOT will maintain its toll roads, including SH 130, SH 45N, SH 45SE, and MoPac. TxDOT anticipates that the transition will occur in phases starting at the end of this year, though they retain the right to pause the process if necessary. They will keep customers informed throughout the transition.
