Cash App Users May Be Eligible for Refunds After Major Security Breach – Find Out How!

Cash App Users Could See Refunds After Security Failures
Cash App users who fell victim to fraud might soon receive money after the app's parent company, Block, Inc., was fined $175 million due to insufficient security measures and inadequate customer service.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) accused Block of engaging in unfair customer practices and mandated significant penalties for various violations, including:
- Failing to provide effective customer service to resolve issues promptly, leading to fake customer service lines that compromised users' information.
- Neglecting to take necessary actions to detect, limit, and address fraud on Cash App.
- Using the chargeback process instead of properly investigating unauthorized transaction disputes in a timely manner.
- Misrepresenting its ability to protect users from unauthorized transfers and misleading information about its customer support phone line.
The CFPB has ordered Block to revise its business practices to comply with legal standards, pay between $75 and $120 million to affected users whose unauthorized transfers were not properly investigated, and contribute $55 million to the CFPB's victim relief fund.
While Block agreed to the settlement, it disagreed with the CFPB's portrayal of its actions. In an online statement, the company expressed, "We made the decision to settle this matter in the interest of putting it behind us and focusing on what's best for our customers and our business. The historical issues raised in this agreement do not reflect the Cash App experience today."
Cash App has since improved customer support with multiple live support options and an online dispute tool. They also introduced a payment warning tool to alert users of potential scams.
How to Claim Your Refund from Cash App
If you believe you were affected by Cash App's violations, no action is needed on your part to request a refund. In most cases, companies pay the CFPB, and the agency or a payment administrator will distribute refunds to those impacted. Specific details on the refund amounts and timing remain uncertain.
Keep an eye on your email and physical mail for updates, and check your bank account for any refunds from the settlement. For further inquiries, you can reach Cash App's customer support at 1-800-969-1940.
