Big Changes Ahead for TxTag: What You Need to Know About the Transition to HCTRA

TxDOT's Transition Plans for TxTag
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to transfer the management of TxTag's toll-transaction processing and customer account services to the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) by the end of the year.
Important Steps for TxTag Customers
TxDOT urges current TxTag customers to update their address, vehicle information, and credit card details to prevent any issues during the transition. Additionally, customers are advised to pay off any overdue bills promptly.
Current Contract and Future Management
TxDOT is currently under a $185 million contract with TTEC Government Solutions for customer service, which is set to expire on November 14. After the transition, customers will still be able to use their TxTag stickers without needing to switch to an EZ TAG from HCTRA. Drivers will also have the flexibility to use tolling transponders from various regions, including North Texas, Kansas, and Florida.
Managing Accounts Post-Transition
Post-transition, TxTag customers will manage their accounts via the HCTRA website. In-person services will still be available at TxTag locations in the Austin area. While HCTRA will handle toll collections, TxDOT will maintain its toll roads, including SH 130, SH 45N, SH 45SE, and MoPac.
Timeline and Updates
TxDOT anticipates that the transition will occur in phases starting at the end of this year, with the possibility of halting the process if necessary. They commit to keeping customers informed throughout this transition process.
